Case study on the STÜBBE E-CLASS and STÜBBE X-CLASS
Saving costs by reducing maintenance requirements (improved service life for pumps)
At its largest potassium-producing site, the plant Werra located between the German states of Hesse and Thuringia, Europe’s market leader K+S produces potassium chloride and magnesium sulfate, as well as raw materials for many organic and inorganic potassium compounds that are absolutely vital for a variety of sectors. These salts are required in agriculture as soil, fertigation and leaf fertilizers, are indispensable for producing medications, pharmaceutical products and medical infusions and provide minerals in food and animal feed. In the past, only high-alloyed metal centrifugal pumps were used in these abrasive and corrosive manufacturing processes. In an attempt to increase the pump service life, mineral composite pumps have also been used as an alternative for some years.
Stable bearings, efficient hydraulics and clever mechanical seal kit
These highly demanding applications combined with the generally corrosive (salty) ambient conditions have caused most pump series to develop weaknesses in their bearings and/or mechanical seals, making regular expensive repairs necessary. It was only through use of the STÜBBE X-Class pump series that it became possible to reduce these unfortunate expenses significantly. Initial skepticism from multiple decision-makers about the use of plastic as a material soon made way for the realization that STÜBBE X-Class pumps are characterized by exceptionally quiet running and high durability of the double-acting mechanical seal.
Unrivaled service life since the introduction of the STÜBBE X-CLASS pump
The willingness of individual K+S employees to strike out in a new direction and trust STÜBBE’s expertise ultimately led to a significant increase in the service life of pumps compared to the traditional pump makes used for decades. Not only are the acquisition costs significantly lower than those of metal pumps, there is also a significant price advantage when stocking spare parts. For K+S, the main priority is the reliability and safety of the new X-CLASS series by STÜBBE. In addition, they appreciate the service and expert consultation, given the complexity of these applications.
